IFITT Journal Paper of The Year Award (3rd Place)

posted Feb 9, 2016, 8:12 PM by Gang Li   [ updated Feb 9, 2016, 8:13 PM ]

Congratulate on Quan's achievement of this award: The journal titled “Exploring the travel behavior of inbound tourists to Hong Kong using geotagged photos” published in Tourism Management received Journal Paper of the year Award. The paper presented a novel approach to discover travel behavior at a comprehensive level, without the need of actual engagement with the tourists. Namely, the geotagged photos, embedded with temporal and spatial, were retrieved from social photo sharing sites. Two data mining techniques, named Density Clustering and Markov chains, were employed to mine interesting patterns from the data.

Tourism Management is the leading international journal for all those concerned with the planning and management of travel and tourism. The journal takes an interdisciplinary approach and includes planning and policy aspects of international, national and regional tourism as well as specific management studies. The Impact Factor of Tourism management is 2.554

The award was  given at the ENTER 2016 conference (Bilbao, Spain, 2 - 5 Feb 2016)  to an eTourism-related paper published in an academic journal during the year 2015, which has distinguished itself due to its innovativeness and scientific rigor. An invited panel consisting of prominent researchers representing different areas of expertise was established to judge the merits of nominated papers and make recommendations to the IFITT Board. International Federation for Information Technologies and Travel & Tourism (IFITT) is the leading independent global community for the discussion, exchange and development of knowledge about the use and impact of new information and communication technologies (ICT) in the travel and tourism industry and experience.

HuyQuan Vu is now a postdoctoral research fellow at Victoria University, Melbourne Australia.
